Monday 6 September 2010 - Have just been rostered off for a few days and are soaking up every minute of it, on the flight back we flew over the north sea, I couldn't believe it, there are more rigs through there than I have seen in my life, they looked like giant pimples on mother earths face - but what can you expect from a stretch of water that produces nearly 6 million barrels a day, oops gotta go been on my back for too long, I don't want an uneven tan.

Saturday 4 September 2010 - We had a mishap on the rig today, we were unloading a new piece of jewelry from the supply vessel, but the whip line snapped sending it into the sea. After the ritual 2 hours of yelling and pointing fingers, the boss decided to leave his throne and get the ROV team in to retrieve the lost equipment. So it looks like we will all be on cleaning duties for the next couple of days until they can arrive, where's my mop and brush?

Thursday 2 September 2010 - I was sent on a HUET (helicopter underwater escape training) course a week or so back, every two years all rig personnel who work on offshore installations are put through this, basically theres a scale copy of a helicopter hanging over a pool which you are strapped into and the helicopter is then dunked in the water, they also add all kinds of debris and smoke to the water to make it feel like a real crash, the aim of the game is to escape the wreck before you drown, thankfully I am top heavy and float to the surface anyway, I did this four times over the two days from each different seat in the helicopter just to get a feel of what to do from each seat, I cant wait for the next one, yeah right!
